Those we have completed and those we are working on
Lyme Billy Mk2
Lyme Billy Mk2 is our centrepiece and is currently a ‘work in progress’. While based on our original model that ran for several months in the windows of the former River Cottage restaurant, this one is a complete rebuild from scratch. It has been completely reconfigured to suit our new premises, constructed using different techniques and will have lots of new features. For example; Combpyne Station is now being added; the model will feature a typical Devon farm; and there will be a series of ‘cameo’ scenes built from memorable stories of the line. The build is a journey in itself, and one we hope you will enjoy.

Axminster’s Railway
We have built this model for display at the Community Waffle House in Axminster. It celebrates Axminster’s history as a railway town since 1860, when the London & South West Railway opened the station on the route between London Waterloo and Exeter. The model of the station itself is a faithfully built replica that includes its fine architecture. Our model also includes the bay siding that served the famous old Axminster to Lyme Regis branch line. Close to the station on our model is the Axminster Carpets factory whose history is tightly bound to the railway. High above stands the town centre, focused around the beautiful Minster Church and distinctive buildings of Trinity Square, including Trinity House.

Lyme Billy Mk1
The original Lyme Billy model is where our adventure began - a novel idea to fill one of Axminster’s empty town centre windows with something visually interesting. Our small team designed and built it in a matter of a few months ready to give the town a lift for the Christmas of 2023. We always knew the model’s time there would be limited, but the response to it was such that we then turned our attention to finding another empty property where we could entertain visitors indoors rather than from the pavement. Given the polystyrene used as the basis for the scenery, the original model had its limitations, but we have used the base, much of the track and the buildings for Lyme Billy2. Its spirit lives on!
